2024 Haldane Essay Prize

We are pleased to announce the winner of the fourth annual competition for the Haldane Essay Prize in Philosophy and Public Affairs. This competition, which is being administered by the Centre for Ethics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs (CEPPA), awards £250 to the best essay that applies philosophy to a matter of public concern.
This year the winner is Anna Videbaek Smith, for an essay entitled ‘Does morally valid consent require communication?’ The judges were impressed by the essay’s clarity of expression, its charitable reading of all parties to the debate, and the way it drew upon the wider academic literature to develop novel philosophical arguments.
